The congregation at Gold Canyon UMC is concerned about humanitarian issues throughout the world. As we come to understand how much need exists in the world, members become more involved in a variety of ministries and assistance programs throughout the world. Our International Missions team works in partnership with a variety of organizations to raise awareness and bring much-needed aid to people in other parts of God’s kingdom. Some of these organizations include:
Rice & Beans Ministry – Costa Rica
Fellowman International (FMI) of Honduras and Green Parrot Coffee Sales
Dedicated to serving the poor in Honduras by sharing “love and hope through works with those who are impoverished both in body and spirit,” members at Gold Canyon UMC offer financial support to FMI by purchasing packages of Green Parrot coffee.
Personal Energy Transportation (PET) – over 100 countries
Equal Exchange Interfaith Program
Since 1986, Equal Exchange, a worker-owned cooperative, has worked with small farmer cooperatives in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the United States building fair and just trading relationships based on trust, fair prices, affordable credit, and environmental sustainability. The program partners with faith-based relief, development, and human rights organizations and works with communities of faith as they learn about and promote Fair Trade. People of faith are living out their values through their consumer choices, and farming communities are providing for their families, greening our planet, and building a better future. As an Equal Exchange Interfaith Program partner, Gold Canyon UMC not only conscientiously serves fair trade coffee during fellowship times, but also makes Fair Trade products, such as coffee, tea, and chocolate available for purchase following worship.
United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)
UMCOR is the humanitarian relief and development agency of the United Methodist Church, a worldwide denomination. For 65 years, UMCOR has responded internationally to natural or human made disasters – those interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on its own. UMCOR’s mission is to alleviate human suffering and provide practical, proactive support to the most vulnerable survivors of chronic or temporary emergencies due to natural or civil causes. Through the generous donations of its members, Gold Canyon UMC partners with UMCOR to provide much needed relief. For more information about UMCOR, visit their website at http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor. 100% of every monetary gift is dedicated to providing humanitarian aid through UMCOR.
