Music Ministries

The music program at Gold Canyon United Methodist Church, under the direction of our Director of Music Ministries, Associate Director of Music, and Assistant Director of Special Music, offers many opportunities for members and friends to share their musical talents with both the congregation and the community.

Chancel Choir

Under the direction of Douglas J. Benton, Director of Music Ministries, the church’s traditional choir provides musical leadership and songs of praise for the two traditional worship services on Sunday morning. The choir meets for rehearsals on Thursdays evenings at 7:00 pm in the Music Room. In addition to the Sunday morning services, the Chancel Choir presents concerts during the Christmas season and in the spring. Members of the Chancel Choir also offer special music during worship. Adults who can read music and sing are invited to join at any time during the year.

Angel Choir

Children in grades 4-8 are welcome to join the Angel Choir, which meets on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 pm. The Angel Choir presents special music from time to time during Sunday morning worship.

Chancel Ringers (Handbells)

Our most experienced handbell choir, this group of skilled ringers provides special music on Sunday mornings during the traditional worship services and often performs for special concerts as well. Individuals who have played in handbell choirs in the past are invited to contact our Director of Music for more information and rehearsal times.

Youth Bell Choir (Handbells)

Open to Junior and Senior High youth, this handbell choir offers young people the opportunity to learn musical skills and teamwork! Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm. Young people do not have to read music in order to join.

Uncommon Grace (Praise Band)

This Contemporary Christian Praise Band under the direction of David Ballard, Associate Director of Music, provides musical leadership for the Praise Service on Sunday mornings at 10:50 am in the Koinonia Room (located in the Education Building just west of the main Sanctuary). Rehearsals are on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am.

One In The Spirit (Country Western Group)

This Country/Western musical group provides leadership during our Country Worship Services on Sundays at 5:00 pm in the Koinonia Room. They meet for rehearsal on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm. If you can carry a tune in a bucket, or play the guitar or fiddle, we invite you to come on down, y’hear?

GCUMC Orchestra

This instrumental group is open to experienced instrumentalists from the 6th grade on up to senior adults. Individuals with experience playing any instrument, whether strings, brass, woodwinds, or percussion, are invited to join. Rehearsals are on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the Music Room.

Concerts

All concerts, except those sponsored by the Gold Canyon Arts Council, are free and open to the public. Concert-goers are asked to bring a can of food for the GCUMC Food Bank, and free will offerings are received to help defray expenses and fund specific goals of our Music Ministry. Tickets for Gold Canyon Arts Council events are generally available several weeks before the scheduled event.

Performing Arts Series (Concert Series)

The people at Gold Canyon UMC are blessed by many opportunities to worship and praise God, and to reach out into the community through music. Throughout the year, the church hosts a variety of musical concerts, including the Christmas and Spring concerts featuring the GCUMC Chancel Choir, Chancel Ringers, and other musical groups. Uncommon Grace also presents concerts to benefit the annual Youth Mission Trip.
